Busy Bee Weekend
Usually on the weekends I try to take it easy because during the week it’s the hustle and bustle of work, school, and any other errand that needs to be dealt with. This past weekend, however, was a crazy busy one for me.
Friday afternoon I left work early to do bridal makeup, and help my Love with the photography as. We didn’t get back home from that until 9:30pm, and I was meeting my girlfriends at 54th Street Bar and Grill for wings and waffle fries. We had so much fun. So much that the manger had to come over to tell us to quiet down. Oopsies! I didn’t get home from my besties until 12:30am, and still had to clean makeup brushes for my 8:30 client. Talk about tired.
Early on Saturday morning I had my lovely client Ms. Cleo King from the Mike and Molly show on CBS. I always love doing her makeup, and catching up. She always gives such great advice, and she has an awesome spirit.
From Ms. Cleo I went to do my little sister and her friend’s makeup for prom. I was sad that I couldn’t stay to see her get dressed. She is the baby of us three girls, and seeing her grow into this beautiful young woman always gets me a little misty. Her friend had never worn makeup before, and was worried that she wouldn’t look right with it on. Whenever I do anyone’s makeup I always make them as comfortable as possible with the makeup on. I do explain that it may look a little heavy, but that’s just because you don’t normally see yourself all made up. When I was done she looked at herself in the mirror, and got a little teary. That’s why I love doing what I do.

After I left the lovely young ladies I had my biggest task of the day. My makeup soul mate, Jai, and I were doing makeup for Lindenwood University’s fashion design students for their fashion show held at one of the local Mercedes-Benz dealerships. This was their final exam, and honey they went all out. There were about 7 or 8 other makeup artist besides me and Jai, and 6 hair stylist. There were 29 models, and each artist was to do 3- 5 faces. I was nervous, but once I got in the groove it was on.

There were 9 student designers, and each had their own look board for hair and makeup for their collections. I did 4 girls from one collection, 1 girl from another collection, 2 guys from a men’s collection, and one of the hairstylist just for fun. By the end of it all my feet and back hurt, and I had a migraine ponding on the right side of my head. When I saw my work coming down that runway I felt like a proud mama though, and when I got home I had to clean my brushes to get ready to do Ms. Cleo and her mother at 7:30 Sunday morning for mother’s day.

I love doing what I do. It can get really exhausting, but it is definitely worth it. Until next time!
